Volunteers are an essential part the scholarship program, devoting their time to reviewing the applications that pour in each January. The volunteers are given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of scholarship applicants. Likewise, the applicants impact the lives of the reviewers.
Scholarship reviewers can come from any walk of life, but they all seem to have a passion for helping those impacted by MS achieve their dreams.
- Volunteer Amber Kocian, a college student pursing a position as an occupational therapist, is inspired as she read about the fortitude the applicants showcase. “Some of these high school students really work hard helping out their parents while also keeping up their studies,” she said.
- Dr. Darpan Patel, a clinical research project manager and an MS Advocate, wanted to volunteer his time to the scholarship program as a way to help carepartners pursue higher education.
- Debbie Yarborough, a certified property manager, has a heart for giving back to her community. She understands that providing deserving students with scholarships gives them both a short-term benefit and a greater, long-term one by positively influencing society though their contributions.
