MS Activism Makes Change Happen

MS activists and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: Lone Star relentlessly advocate every day to advance federal, state and community policies and programs that impact the lives of persons living with MS.

When the Texas Legislature convened for the 81st Legislative session in 2009, Texas MS activists prioritized the following issues:

Texas Health Insurance Risk Pool (THIRP)
We supported legislation that would make the Texas Health Insurance Risk Pool more affordable.

We supported legislation to improve access to assistance and services for family caregivers.

Low-Income Utility Assistance
We supported restoring funds collected through dedicated fees to the System Benefit Fund (SBF) and using them for the intended purpose: providing rate discounts to low-income customers and bill payment assistance to people with serious illness and disabilities threatened with service disconnection.
