Key Texas Disability Laws
The Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities created a summary of key state laws protecting the rights of the approximately 4 million people in Texas with disabilities.

ADA
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was the first comprehensive legislation passed by any country in the world to prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability. ADA gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications.
