What is MS Partner Counseling?
Coping with MS can have an emotional impact on the entire family. In response to this reality, the Blue Ridge Chapter has developed an innovative counseling program to serve partners of people with MS. Counseling will be provided at your convenience in a confidential and private format via the telephone.
Who can participate?
The MS Partner Telephone Counseling Program is available to partners or spouses of people with MS and other adult (18+) family members or friends.
How will this help me?
Telephone counseling sessions may benefit you in many ways. The counselor can serve as a “listening ear” and provide emotional and social support. You and the counselor may brainstorm solutions for specific problems and you may also learn some useful coping skills and strategies. Finally, referral back to the Blue Ridge Chapter could be made for additional resources that would be helpful in your situation. There are limits to telephone counseling and some participants may be referred for additional counseling services in their community.
Is there a fee?
No, this program is provided free of charge. All participants utilizing this free service will be offered four one-hour counseling sessions facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker with a long history of MS experience.
