On Monday, May 4th, the Society, in cooperation with the Congressional MS Caucus and Bike Caucus, hosted a press conference on Capitol Hill with Phil Keoghan of the CBS show – The Amazing Race. Five Members of Congress attended the press conference and spoke before the audience.
In attendance were the co-chairs of the Congressional MS Caucus – Congressmen Russ Carnahan (MO) and Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D. (TX) and the co-chairs of the Bike Caucus – Congressmen Earl Blumenauer (OR) and Tom Petri (WI). Also speaking at the event was newly elected Congresswoman Mary Jo Kilroy (OH) who lives with MS.
The event was emceed by Rob Engel a MS Activist who lives with MS and is a member of the Federal Activism Council.
The Congressional delegation in attendance presented Phil Keoghan with a flag that had flown over the Capital in honor of his ride and after the press conference, Congressman Carnahan invited Phil to walk over to the Capitol to watch votes on the floor and they spent a good deal of time talking about Congressional procedure and US Government.
