Volunteer Positions

We can’t do this without you! Walk MS relies on over 300 volunteers to help us raise $790,000 in 2010!!

Volunteers come from every walk of life, with many skills and talents. There are many jobs to choose from, preview the list below for more information, or click on the links to download a full position description.

Volunteer Descriptions:

Finish Line Volunteer - Assist with the set up of the Walk MS event site to provide a festive and exciting event for volunteers and participants. Thank and cheer on all of our walkers as they cross the finish line, pass out goody bags. Don't be afraid to wear lots of orange and use noise makers and signs!

Ambassador - Serve as an ambassador for the MS Society and those living with MS at the Champs Tent. Answer any questions people may have about MS and the National MS Society-Gateway Area Chapter.

Safety Volunteer - Help keep walkers safe by actively encouraging walkers to wait and cross with the appropriate lights at busy intersections.

Labor Volunteer - Help load/unload supply vehicle and place equipment and supplies into designated areas. Volunteers will also assist with the set up/take down of equipment such as tents, tables and chairs according to site plan.

Face Paint Volunteer - Decorate faces of young children or other walk particpants.

In- Kind Researcher Volunteer - To research and contact potential in-kind donors for items needed at Walk MS sites.

Meal Volunteer- Serve food for Walk MS participants and volunteers.

Medical Volunteer - Provide medical attention as needed to injured or exhausted walkers.

Parking Volunteer - Direct arriving participants and volunteers to parking areas

Photographer - Take pictures of Walk MS participants and volunteers, team photos, and action pictures of the day’s events.

Welcome Tent Volunteer - Process registrations for the Walk MS, collect money, provide prizes, and answer questions about the Walk MS site, route, and events. Also includes Registration, volunteer Check-In, garage sale area, greeters, prize runners.

Rest Stop Captain Volunteer - Supervise a team of volunteers that will prepare and serve refreshments to Walk MS participants.

Rest Stop Volunteer - Provide refreshments and information for Walk MS participants as they walk the route.

Route Cyclist Volunteer - Work with NMSS staff and SAG drivers to patrol Walk MS route looking for potential areas of concern or cyclists in need of assistance.

Route Marker Volunteer - Route Marker Volunteers are assigned the task of placing and removing directional arrows along the entire route. Route Marker Volunteers are also instructed to check for unsafe conditions along the walk route and report anything of potential interest to NMSS staff.

Supply Truck Driver and Assistance Volunteer - Distribute the needed supplies and materials to designated areas of the Walk MS route.
