To make a long story short…oops, too late

The names have been changed to protect the guilty

A new book, by Wisconsin author Lew Toppel, takes a humorous and sometimes poignant look at living with multiple sclerosis. Businessman, entrepreneur, educator, soldier and traveler, Lew has led a full and interesting life. Diagnosed with MS a few years ago at age 58, Lew decided to share some of his thoughts, hoping to bring a smile to others.

There are a lot of “isms” in this world. Hopefully you’ll find mine strike a chord in you…I realize that life can change in the blink of an eye. That’s why 100 percent of the profits and I hope there are some from the sale of this book will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
- Lewis Toppel

Thanks to Lew’s generosity, 100% of the profits from the sale of the book will benefit the National MS Society Wisconsin Chapter.

Available at Borders bookstores.

NEW BOOK ADDRESSES SYMPTOMS OF MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS NOT OFTEN RECOGNIZED: COGNITIVE CHALLENGES

(MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN) When Jeffrey Gingold, a successful Milwaukee trial attorney and law professor, “misplaced” his wife on the living room couch, he had no idea he was experiencing a common symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS). He soon discovered he was not alone. In his new book, Facing the Cognitive Challenges of Multiple Sclerosis, Gingold tackles a painfully real issue, not often addressed in the diagnosis of MS cognitive struggles. It is the only book written on the topic from the perspective of someone diagnosed with the disease.

Cognitive difficulties may go untreated, and even undiagnosed, in one-half of all people with MS. When these difficulties are not discussed upon diagnosis, patients assume their confusion, forgetfulness and inability to concentrate are due to something else. Gingold soon learned there were no accessible resources on the topic (of the 300 books in print about MS, none focuses on cognitive challenges from the patient’s perspective). He decided to address the issue by sharing his own private struggle with the disease.

Gingold’s book, though newly published, has received positive praise. According to Kirkus Reviews, Mr. Gingold writes with “candor, sympathy and a surprising amount of humor… Insightful and informative, Gingold’s guide is a much needed resource for the often invisible side of MS.” MS World says, “…one of the best books I have read in some time. When he was lost driving in his own neighborhood, I felt I was right there sweating emotionally with him.”

Jeffrey Gingold is an outspoken, volunteer advocate regarding cognitive disability and MS. His efforts on behalf of the National MS Society Wisconsin Chapter have helped to secure funding for an MS early diagnosis program for indigent women in Wisconsin, as well as an income tax check-off for voluntary giving to fund MS programs and services.

Facing the Cognitive Challenges of Multiple Sclerosis is available at www.Amazon.com, www.BarnesandNoble.com, and at bookstores throughout the country. It is published by Demos Medical Publishing.
