The MS-150 ride for 2008 is in the books! What a ride! The first day started out great. Then the rain started. After that it was about 50 miles of pouring rain before we finished the 85 mile route from Tulsa to Pryor. There were some punishing hills to add to the fun but spirits were NOT dampened. Everybody finished the day with a smile on their face and a newfound appreciation for a warm shower! Thank you to the fol;ks in Pryor for the wonderful Rec. Center where we showered and slept for the night. The Sunday ride back was AWESOME! Great weather and beautiful scenery put smiles on everyones faces!
THANK YOU to everyone who supported my ride this year. YOU ROCK!!!!

WOW! These are the last few days before the 2008 MS-150 and I am VERY excited to see the donations coming in at the last minute! THANK YOU to everyone who is getting involved. It's all for a great cause and EVERY penny of the money goes to help people with MS! What do I get out of it? Well, I get to meet and ride with some of the most wonderful people on earth! I get to correspond with donors who are some of the the kindest and most generous people on earth! Aaaand...I get to brag about how sore my hiney was for days after riding 150 miles on a bicycle. I am SO fortunate to know all of these people and have been blessed with the good health to do my small part for the REAL HEROES in this...the people who are challenged to face the fight with MS daily!

Wow..the time has flown. I've been off the bike for a couple of weeks with an elbow injury (tendonitis) but I'm going to have to jump on it this week and get ready. The ride is going to be fun and they have asked me to ride as a "Celebrity Rider" again this year. That is quite an honor but the real "celebrities are the folks like Mary Benes and the many others who suffer from MS. Mary will even ride a portion to the route with us if she feels up to it. WHAT A TROOPER!

Wow!!! Time sure flies. Training is going well. I'm starting to get a little worried about my fund raising this year though. If you can make a donation of ANY size please help. ALL the money goes to help Oklahomans with MS and is a tax-deductible donation.
THANK YOU!
Jean

In less than 60 days we'll be riding to beat MS. Our route this year goes to Pryor, OK so we get to see a different part of NE Oklahoma...a much hillier part! I'm riding as often as possible to get ready and I'll start joining the MS training rides on Saturdays now.
I'm a long way away from my goal of $3000 for this year. The economy and gas prices are probably partly to blame for people keeping their cash a little closer to home. I don't blame them. I've raised just under $500 so far and I'll keep trying until the time is up. THANK YOU to everyone who supported me in the past and have supported me this year. ALL of your money goes to the MS Society to help those who suffer from MS.

"Ooooooooklahoma where the winds come sweeping down the plains...!
Well, I can tell you they sweep pretty well through the streets and trees and along the River Trails too! But it's kind of a bonus really. When the winds are out of the south at 20-30 with gusts to 40mph it's like having a free hill to ride where you didn't expect one!
Builds CHARACTER, they say. Builds legs and endurance too. Things we'll all need to ride the back hills of eastern Oklahoma during the MS-150 in mid-September when the heat should be a pleasant 100-110.
Sure hope there's a nice tailwind then!

The Oklahoma MS-150 is Sept. 13-14 this year! I'm trying to get in MUCH better shape earlier this year so that by the time the MS-150 comes around in September I'll be ready to make record time! I'm hoping to do a couple of "CENTURY" rides (100 Miles) before September too. I normally ride 30 miles in my training rides but I started increasing that to 50 a few days ago. I think that getting fit BEFORE the really hot weather gets here is a good idea. I'll keep you informed of my progress.

Last year I made up a parody song about our ride in the MS-150. Duane Friesen's daughter Christy put it to a video that played at the "Victory Dinner" at Cherokee Casino.
I made a shorter version and put it on http://YOUTUBE.com titled "MS-150 Parody Song" if you would like to watch it.
OR...you can go to my website. I've made a special MS-150 page at:

HOPE YA LIKE IT!

I'm sure glad I bought some good cold weather tights for riding this time of year. They're BlackBottoms from Tom's on Peoria. Good stuff.
I also found another way to use them. They make a GREAT base layer under my ski pants & jacket when I go snow skiing. I wonder if we could do an MS-150 SKI MARATHON or something? I love to ski! Besides...it's good cold weather training too..........right?

Well, here it is, the first week of January. I haven't even made a dent in the "pudge" I've aquired from so many good holiday meals.
Training for this year's MS-150 ride starts now though. I just received an email from the National MS Society asking me to get started on trying to raise money for this year's ride...and, hoping to be a good soldier...I complied. But the truth is, I'm happy to comply. The cause is a good one. So many people become dibilitated in the prime of life by this disease. Scientists are so close to unlocking a cure. If they do, no one has to suffer from MS again. So much can be done by the simple efforts of those who band together. The world was changed by one man who said, "I have a dream..." Others saw his vision and, against all odds, joined together to make a change .
That man was inspired by another humble man who once said, "They will know you are mine by your love for one another..."
We can make a change IF we join together.
