Mission Statement

The National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now—to move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis.

We help each person address the challenges of living with MS through our 50-state network of chapters. The Society helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.

  • We are moving research forward by relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatment and cure.
  • We are moving to reach out and respond to individuals, families and communities living with multiple sclerosis.
  • We are moving politicians and legislation to champion the needs of people with MS through activism, advocacy and influence.
  • We are moving to mobilize the millions of people who want to do something about MS now.

MS stops people from moving. We exist to make sure it doesn't.

The Sonya Slifka Longitudinal MS Study has provided essential information on the course of MS, the cost of treatment and the effects of the disease on quality of life. As a result of the success of the first phase of the study, they have decided to continue the study and to double the number of participants. We are also are making a special effort to recruit people who are recently diagnosed (within the last 12 months), Hispanic, African American, and 18-24 years old. See more here
All recruiting documents can be found at http://www.slifkastudy.org/.

Thanks to significant advances in research, the FDA has approved several treatments that may alter the underlying course of multiple sclerosis, and early treatment is critically important. People with MS should consult their doctors about using one of the FDA-approved medications and other effective treatments for the symptoms of MS.

If you or someone you know has MS, contact the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at 1-800-FIGHT-MS or main.nationalmssociety.org for more information.

Why You Should Get On and Stay On MS Drug Therapy
Scientific evidence shows that these therapies have the ability to decrease the number of attacks a person with relapsing MS would expect to have over time. As a result, these medications are thought to slow down the development of MS disability. Learn More
