Clear Channel Communications, Inc. Receives National MS Society's “Shining Star” Award
Orlando, Florida— Clear Channel Communications, Inc. was recognized today by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for its commitment to raising awareness for multiple sclerosis, a chronic disease of the central nervous system which strikes someone new every hour of every day. There is no cure for MS.
The company received the “Shining Star” award, which is given annually by the National MS Society to the corporate partner who has demonstrated the most growth during the past year in their nationwide commitment to raising awareness for MS and their work with the Society. Past recipients include FedEx and BP America.
Randall Mays, Clear Channel's President and CFO, accepted the award for his company via a videotaped message to the crowd of over 1,000, including business leaders, National MS Society volunteers and staff, who gathered in Orlando for the Society's national conference.
Clear Channel's commitment to the National MS Society and raising awareness for MS spans many years and includes millions of dollars donated in advertising time and talent. Building on that record of generosity, during this past year the company committed over $1 million to an innovative MS awareness campaign called “The Face of MS,” which the Society launched in conjunction with MS Awareness Week last March. Clear Channel worked collaboratively with the Society to develop creative materials for the campaign that included outdoor, radio and TV elements.
“Clear Channel has literally put a face on MS,” said Joyce Nelson , President and CEO of the National MS Society. “Their commitment to the communities in which they live and work is exemplary, and we are so grateful to have them as partners as we move toward a world free from MS.” In addition to the company's donations of valuable airtime, Clear Channel also has a dedicated cycling team of Clear Channel employees that rides in MS Bike Tours across the country and that has participated in over 30 rides this year. Riders include Randall Mays, who cycles in his local MS Bike Tour, and who also serves as the national captain for Team Clear Channel. Mr. Mays has announced a Clear Channel goal to create MS cycling teams in each of the 100 cities where Bike Tours are conducted.
“Clear Channel is proud to partner with the National MS Society—the Society's commitment to people with MS and to finding a cure for this disease is an inspiration to us all,” Mr. Mays, said. He continued, “We're honored to receive this award, as we all look forward to the day when the news broadcasts of Clear Channel stations across the country can report that a cure for MS has been found.”
