EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Nothing celebrates the arrival of spring better than an icy margarita – an icy margarita from East Hartford’s Margaritas Mexican Restaurant, that is. And nobody knows how to work a party better than Lisa’s Fine Steppers. A match made in heaven, Lisa Fine, of Manchester, and her fundraising team are bellying up to the bar with Margaritas Mexican Restaurant to host a series of four fundraisers to benefit multiple sclerosis, a disease Fine has been battling since 1991.
Fine, who captains the fundraising team, Lisa’s Fine Steppers, is hosting the first fundraiser, Noche Mexicana, Tuesday, April 9, from 4 p.m. to close. A portion of sales that night will benefit Fine’s team, which is raising funds in support of the 2013 Walk MS.
Fine, who began her involvement with Walk MS in 2002, was impressed when she read about fundraising opportunities at East Hartford’s Margaritas Mexican Restaurant. Once she met assistant manager Tyler Green, she knew that she had found the perfect way to begin her fundraising efforts.
“When Lisa approached us about teaming up with Margaritas, we were immediately onboard,” explained Green. “It’s our mission to support local community organizations. One of the ways that we accomplish this is through the Noche Mexicana Fundraisers. One night a month, people can eat at Margaritas, and part of the proceeds from their meal goes to a local charity.”
Margaritas Mexican Restaurant will also be present at the Manchester walk site on Sunday, April 21. The restaurant will serve chips and salsa at the event, and will promote the Full Moon Madness Fundraiser for Lisa’s Fine Steppers, which will take place Thursday, May 23.
More than 6,000 Connecticut residents, like Fine, live with multiple sclerosis, a potentially debilitating disease. The cause is unknown and there is currently no cure. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot be predicted. Funds raised ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure and provide for the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the chapter to Connecticut residents affected by MS.
“This is the first time in a few years that an organized team will be stepping out with me in Manchester,” shared Fine. “After taking a few years off, I wanted to come back strong. I teamed up with Margaritas, developed a new name for the team and will be stepping out in full force on April 21!”
Margaritas Mexican Restaurant will donate 15 percent of all pre-tax food and beverage purchases made by fundraiser participants to the National MS Society.
Margaritas Mexican Restaurant will host two additional Noche Mexicana Fundraisers on Thursday, May 2, and Tuesday, June 25. To become an event participant, patrons must mention the Noche Mexicana for MS event to their host or server. Guests can choose items from any of Margaritas menus, takeout orders included.
The restaurant will also host a Full Moon Madness event on Thursday, May 23. The restaurant will donate 5 percent of all lounge sales that night to benefit Lisa’s Fine Steppers.
