Jackson, NJ–On Sunday, September 15, Jackson resident Lara DiLiberti will volunteer her time to help others tackle the rolling hills of Amwell Valley at the upcoming Bike MS Hops to Hops Ride as they cycle to support all those living with multiple sclerosis.
After thirty years of living with an inkling that something in her life was missing Lara discovered she had a twin. Lara was reunited with her twin Lizzie from whom she was separated from at birth. When they first met, Lizzie was a healthy, vibrant, beautiful person who could speak multiple languages and was translating records for the Library of Congress. As time moved in Lara noticed that Lizzie was dealing with symptoms of some sort of health problem.
Lizzie was diagnosed with MS, which quickly began to weaken her. Being that Lara and Lizzie are identical twins Lara began to fear that that she was watching a preview of what was to come for her. As Lizzie’s MS progressed and her health declined Lara suffered with her. “I felt her weakness, frustration, and rage as her prime of life was robbed from her by this condition without an agenda”, says Lara.
Lara had herself tested and was found to not have it. Although she was relieved for herself she is still in pain watching and helping her sister through this nightmare. “I am her caregiver now, and would not have it any other way. Her mind is lucid, she is still a vibrant, beautiful person, and my partner and I are delighted to have her with us at home.”
On September 15th at the Inn at Lambertville Station in Lambertville, NJ, you will find Lara DiLiberti taking on kitchen duties at the Hops to Hops Ride making sure all the cyclists have lunch, snacks, beverages, and whatever else is needed to finish their route. She will do it with a smile on her face knowing that her hard work will help the National MS Society provide support to all those living with MS and will one day help fund a cure.
There is still time to register or come out on Sunday to support those affected by this disease. The Bike MS “Hops to Hops Ride” is the second leg of the NJ Metro Chapter’s three-part Bike MS Ride Series. The “Coast the Coast” Ride took place in May of this year and the “The Great New Jersey County Ride will take place on September 21st and 22nd in Morristown, NJ.
