Singer/songwriter Linda Storey gives a voice to the millions of Americans who live with disabilities. She does this through her powerful music and commitment to advocacy, based on her own experiences. Linda was an avid musician, writing songs and performing with her guitar. However, when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the late '70s, she ultimately lost the ability to play the guitar. Undaunted by her disability, she combines her determination to fight MS and her art to encourage and inspire to people of all abilities. She continues to write, perform and record beautiful music.
Linda is a seasoned solo performer and recording artist. She also performs and records with her band which also features her daughter, Jessica. The Storey women released a CD in 2005 called Mount St. Helens was a Blowin. A portion of the sale of each CD is donated to the National MS Society, via her organization, "CASE for MS."
CASE for MS (originally Musicians Against MS), was founded in 2004 and incorporated in 2006 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. CASE stands for Concerts, Advocacy, Support, and Education. It has a national concert series showcasing Linda and many other talented musicians, including musicians with MS. National artists, Firefall Acoustic, joined them at their most recent and successful event in Novemer 2007. May 22, 2008, features the international Irish band, The John O'Gods, lead by Mark Gilligan who has MS. They all share the same goal: ending the devastating effects of MS. As an advocate for the disabled, Linda has testified in front of the Colorado state senate, participated in the Blue Ribbon Commission on Healthcare Reform, and currently serves on the CDASS Advisory Board. CDASS (Consumer Directed Attendant Support Services), once a pilot program, is now a permanent service offered by Colorado Home and Community Based Services.
Linda is a committed Society volunteer. She is involved with Society chapters in Colorado, Nashville, Idaho, Oregon and Washington as a volunteer, speaker and performer. She also actively promotes local MS Walks. To acknowledge her outstanding work in the fight against MS, the National MS Society honored Linda with the 2004 Advocacy Volunteer of the Year award.
Linda can be seen in the documentary series Broken Wings. Broken Wings profiles the struggles, dreams, and accomplishments of people with disabilities. More recently Linda was featured in The Wallstreet Journal August 18, 2005, and was a keynote speaker for statewide conferernces for the newly developed CDASS program.
