Cutting Edge Research Recommended for Funding

Listen now

Dr. Patricia O’Looney, Vice President of Biomedical Research at the Society, moderates a call about exciting new research projects that will get underway just as soon as funding is secured. Dr. Thomas Lane and Dr. Victor Mark each speak about recommended projects they are spearheading and take questions from call participants.

Dr. Thomas Lane of the University of California, Irvine speaks about his new, yet still unfunded Collaborative MS Center Award. With this award, Dr. Lane and other frontrunners in the field will investigate mouse and human stem cells and their ability to treat mice with MS-like disease, as a prelude to testing cell therapy to restore function in people with MS.

Dr. Victor Mark of the University of Alabama speaks about his clinical trials in a rehabilitation technique to improve arm strength and agility in progressive MS. This technique has already successfully been used in patients who have experienced strokes and other neurological disorders.
