Congress Passes the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021

March 11, 2021

On Thursday, March 11, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act into law. The legislation passed Congress earlier in the week, making it the sixth Congressional package that addresses the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic and health crisis created by the pandemic. The $1.9 trillion relief bill includes funding for vaccines, state and local governments, schools, small businesses, and non-profits. The bill also includes another round of direct payments for Americans who earn up to $75,000 for individuals (or $150,000 for couples) and has provisions to address childhood poverty and temporarily makes health care coverage more affordable for Marketplace plan enrollees and those who select COBRA to maintain their employer-based coverage after employment ends.

A number of Society priorities were included in the legislation. Click here for a comprehensive list of provisions and funding provided in the new law. This summary is meant to be a general overview of the provisions that may benefit people affected by MS in the new law.
