Plant-Based, Low Fat Diet Improves Fatigue in Small Clinical Trial

In a small clinical trial involving 61 people with MS, researchers at Oregon Health & Science University tested a plant-based, low-fat, meat-free diet compared with an untreated control group. Fatigue scores improved significantly, but no significant impacts were seen in MRI scans, disability, or mobility. Participants were able to stick to the diet, and were able to lose weight and reduce cholesterol levels. Although larger studies are needed, these results help to fine-tune our understanding of how managing diet may help people with MS.
