Fashion Oasis To Feature MS Orange At Bridgeport Art Trail

October 7, 2015

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The recently founded fashion show production company Fashion Oasis is taking to the catwalk this November to the tune of raising awareness of all genres of fashion across the state of Connecticut. And, for its first show, Boutique Fashions on Main Street, spectators should take special note of some perfectly placed orange hues on the runway.

“We formed Fashion Oasis to enlighten audiences on the several genres of fashion that appear across our small state,” “For our first night as an organization, we decided to do something to give back to the community and friends that have supported us in this endeavor, including the Bridgeport Art Trail,” said Theodore ‘Chase’ Davis, of Bridgeport. “We made the decision to use out show to highlight what multiple sclerosis is and bring awareness to the disease.”

The idea to give a portion of event proceeds to a charity resulted from the founders’ personal ties to those living with disabilities.

The group of eight, made up of Russell, Travis Bivens, Rahzul Branch, Janelle Gordon, Relisha Gibson, Jason Watts, Bertha Angelou and Velinda MacGregor, selected the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter, as the charity of choice for the premier show, to take place at The Arcade Mall in Bridgeport the night of Friday, November 13.

The National MS Society is a group of passionate individuals looking to do something about MS now. Founded in 1949 by a woman named Sylvia Lawry after her brother was diagnosed with the disease, the Society is now the largest national organization providing services to those living with multiple sclerosis.

More than 6,500 Connecticut residents have identified themselves to the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, as having multiple sclerosis, a chronic disease affecting the central nervous system. The cause is unknown and there is currently no cure. Symptoms can include numbness in the limbs, difficulties with vision and speech, stiffness, loss of mobility and, in some more severe cases, total paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot be predicted.

Fashion Oasis plans to showcase what multiple sclerosis is and how it affects Connecticut residents by including volunteers living with MS in the runway show portion of November’s show. Each model living with the disease will don an orange article of clothing, the Society’s branded color, to signify their ongoing battle.

The Boutique Fashions on Main Street show will take place Friday, November 13, at the Arcade Mall in Bridgeport from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. For $25, guests can enter the mall and view the fashion show that will be taking place on the ground floor.

Immediately following the show will be a Sip and Shop event. This time will allow guests to visit storefronts in the mall featuring designers and makeup artists from the show to shop and network while enjoying adult beverages and listening to great music provided by DJ Buddha LuvJonz and DJ Santos. A portion of the night’s proceeds will go to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter.

“Our hope is to turn Fashion Oasis into something that that helps build a positive, business driven culture,” said Davis. “We would like national and international communities to recognize the maturity and growth within our state, and see us as a real source of fashion awareness. This provides designers, models, photographers and makeup artists the opportunity to create new business connections and amass a clientele that they normally would not be exposed to.”

The Boutique Fashions on Main Street event falls within the 7th Annual Bridgeport Art Trail, a collaboration involving the arts community of Bridgeport. The event takes place on Veteran’s Day Weekend, Thursday – Sunday, November 12-15, 2015.

The Arcade Mall is located at 993 Main St. in Bridgeport. The fashion show will feature three main events: the red carpet from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., the show from 9 – 11 p.m. and the
Sip and Shop to follow from 11:15 – 1 a.m.

Confirmed clothing lines include: La'Moo Designs, De Muerte, Zubair, Faschinn, Venom Vintage, Saints by J, Matt Risman, Stacy Lawes International, Swiyyah Couture and Lenworth Apparel.

“This fashion show is the first introduction to what Fashion Oasis will mean to the state of Connecticut,” said Davis. “These events will be spread out across the whole state so everyone can enjoy the platforms we are providing for many of the states most talented artists.”

The Connecticut Chapter strives to provide knowledge and assistance to help people with MS and their families maintain the highest possible quality of life. These goals are achieved through vital national and local programs.

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
