MS Action Day is an opportunity for MS Activists from the Greater Illinois and Gateway Area chapters to travel to the state Capitol in Springfield, Illinois to launch our advocacy efforts and seek legislative support for priority issues.
MS Action Day will take place this Spring, with date still TBD.
Priority issues for 2014 include:
Expansion of Medicaid – In states that have yet to expand Medicaid, we will continue to actively push for expansion. For those states that are moving forward with Medicaid expansion, we will work to ensure that eligible people with MS will get access to the quality care they need.
Transparency of Coverage and Cost – People should have increased access to information, education resources and environmental support that help them make healthier better choices, understand and manage their own health care to the degree possible, and live healthier lives. For MS activists, key issues regarding transparency in coverage and cost will focus on consumer notification, prior authorization and purchasing tools.
Network Adequacy –The ACA requires that all qualified health plans have an adequate network of different types of health care provides, but states may improve upon those standards or update their own network adequacy requirements through legislation and/or regulation that exceed the minimum standards for qualified health plans. For MS activists, key issues will focus on access to MS care and accessible providers within the network.
