15th Annual On the Move Luncheon, Presented by Biogen

The MS On the Move Luncheon was founded by women who wanted to come together to spread awareness, empower those affected by MS, and help bring us closer to a world free of MS. More than twenty On the Move Luncheons are hosted across the country, bringing leaders from the business and philanthropic communities together to ensure that we move MS research forward. Featuring a celebrity speaker who shares their personal connection to MS, this networking event educates, motivates and inspires.

Since its inception in 2005, the On the Move Luncheon in Washington, D.C. has raised almost $3.5 million to help fund cutting-edge research, facilitate education, and provide programs and services that empower people with MS and their families to move their lives forward.

Keynote Speaker: Lydiaemily

LydiaemilyArtist and Multiple Sclerosis advocate Lydiaemily was born into an activist family passionate about civil rights, social justice and equality, Lydiaemily’s work is infused with a grace parallel to the injustice behind the imagery. She is compelled to speak out not only with powerful paintings and murals, but also by forming and supporting foundations whose work has an impact.
Lydiaemily’s paintings are each created on a background collaged of newspaper.  She created this technique as a way for her to reference the static noise referred to as news.  The daily paper as a bible to the masses, communicating what is. She learned early on that we each need to decide for ourselves what is and that all the static can blind one to the real story.
A prolific and dynamic international artist, Lydiaemily's work has been featured at gallery shows in Europe and across the US. She has been selected by Red Bull to exhibit works at Scope Gallery for Art Basel. Her portrait of Julian Assange was featured in the documentary “We Sell Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks”. Gucci commissioned a mural honoring Jessica Madkiff on a wall in LA’s Skid Row.  Jessica was a victim of sex trafficking and exploitation. Her story is told in the documentary “Jessica’s Story”.
Lydiaemily fought off cancer in 2012 and was then diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2014 These issues serve as catalysts for not only her art, but also for her social engagement as a speaker.  In 2015, she created four large murals spreading a message of hope to those whose lives are touched by M.S.  These inspirational murals are located in LA; Houston,TX; Portland, OR; and Louisville, KY. Next year they will be in Boston, New York and DC.
Lydiaemily is the subject of the documentary “ The art of rebellion” Currently in production. The documentary is being directed by Libby Spears. The documentary is an in depth look at her work as an artist and activist.  And how they come together in her stunning paintings.
Lydia Emily Archibald was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1971. After a well traveled childhood, she landed in LA where she has lived and worked for over 30 years and raises her two daughters.
