Music has shaped Savanna Nelson’s goals and aspirations for the future. It has become an outlet to relieve stress, provides a sense of accomplishment and enriches her understanding of artistic and cultural diversity. She plans to study music therapy at Eastern New Mexico University so she can provide an opportunity to positively impact individuals with disabilities by opening a music therapy clinic someday. Her mom was diagnosed with MS in 2005, and Savanna has learned about the disease and the potential positive effects music can have on a person’s psyche. “Multiple sclerosis has had a large influence on my educational and career choice,” says Savanna. “After researching MS, music and psychology I have developed a deep desire to help people affected by MS with music.”
