TITLE:  Volunteer Engagement Intern
DEPARTMENT:   Community Engagement
REPORTS TO:  Janis Kramer, Community Engagement Manager
LOCATION:  Oregon Chapter Office
TIME COMMITMENT:  8-12 hours per week
 
JOB SUMMARY
Our mission at the National MS Society is to mobilize people and resources, to drive research for a cure, and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. We keep our communities moving forward by breaking down barriers and providing opportunities so that everyone who wants to do something about MS can contribute.
As the Volunteer Engagement Intern you will be part of a crucial role to work directly with the Community Engagement Manager to assist with the Chapter volunteer engagement program.  Tasks include volunteer recruitment, recognition, and training, database management, and other organizational tasks that will assist in the day-to-day coordination of the volunteer program.
You will find this position rewarding through the relationships you make with volunteers and the execution of the event.  Through your efforts you will be supporting more than 8,100 people in Oregon and Southwest Washington living with MS.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, recognition, and training
  • Conduct outreach to community, civic, and fair groups
  • Develop volunteer position descriptions
  • Support lead volunteer program
  • Attend volunteer and community fairs
  • Manage volunteer database and files
  • Assist other departments as necessary
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to represent the National MS Society in a professional manner
  • Must be phone and internet research savvy
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be personable and outgoing
  • Ability to effectively communicate to various sizes of target audiences/groups
  • Ability to work part of a team or independently

TRAINING & EVALUATION
  • Ongoing training, supervision and support
  • Regular evaluation is provided and is based on the accomplishment of the agreed upon objectives and overall job performance. Intern will have the opportunity to give feedback about their own performance and support needed from the Chapter 
LENGTH OF COMMITMENT
  • Must divide hours to come into the office at least two - three times per week
SALARY LEVEL
  • Unpaid – for credit

All volunteers are expected to safeguard confidential information to the degree that their volunteer position is given access to the identity and details of persons living with multiple sclerosis and their families.
