Mariah’s father was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis while she was in high school. Their relationship had struggles, and the diagnosis was tough. “MS has taught me to forgive,” says Mariah. “Despite the fear and distress caused by the disease, I have a better relationship with him.” Mariah is attending Texas A&M University to pursue her goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Drawing from her own experiences, she wants to be the kind of doctor that sets patients at ease.
