Running the Nephi to Vernal Leg of Coast to Coast Relay

January 21, 2014

Run the US, an exciting endurance relay spanning from Los Angeles to New York, has awarded one of its coveted running partnerships to Michelle Jacobi (Marsing, ID). From May 16-22, she will take on the 160 mile Utah leg from Nephi to Vernal with stops in Duchesne and Roosevelt. She will be running the equivalent of a marathon each day for a total of seven consecutive days in support of MS research. Having been diagnosed with MS nine years ago, Michelle is determined to raise awareness as well as fund raise to help find a cure. Learn more by clicking here.

“Having MS hasn’t slowed me down one bit, mainly because I don’t stand still long enough to let MS catch up to me. I love being the sales director for a national homebuilder, volunteering on our city’s planning and zoning committee, being a local school board member, serving for several non-profit organizations but most importantly I raise three amazing boys and lots of money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society with the love and support of my family, friends, and wonderful husband of 17 years!! Because MS runs in our family, the odds are that one of my three boys will also fight this disease. I run with the hope that this will never happen.”

Michelle has been training for this event daily and is preparing both mentally and physically for the grueling challenge that she has taken on in support of the cause. “Joining Ashley and the MS Run the US Team is a highlight and the ultimate challenge in my running and fundraising career! For those of you familiar with this disease, heat and exercise are not my friend, however, I will overcome those odds and do my part in making a difference for MS! Having MS only fuels my passion to run for all those who can’t and more importantly, to find a cure!!”

KBOI2 News caught up with Michelle during MS Awareness Week earlier this year as she trained for Run the US.

The exciting event is dedicated to raising national disease awareness and funds to further the research of multiple sclerosis. This unique relay will enjoy high visibility on the national level with regional promotions that tie-in with local offices of the National MS Society in each city on the tour.

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
