Each year, the Society recognizes one family that has made significant financial contributions to our mission. This year the Greater Northwest Chapter’s very own Alvord Family was recognized with this extraordinary distinction. To date, three generations of the family have contributed more than $3 million to support the work of the National MS Society!
More than 50 years ago, Dr. Buster and Mrs. Nancy Alvord began a family legacy of leadership and commitment to the National MS Society. Dr. Alvord devoted his life to basic MS research. His work on experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) in animals helped to advance understanding of the disease process and subsequently propelled treatments for MS. Dr. Alvord embodied the Society’s vision of a world free of MS, relentlessly pursuing the cause and cure. This passion and dedication was instilled in his children and they have, in turn, continued Buster and Nancy’s legacy with their own children. Congratulations and thank you to the Alvord family for everything you do to move us closer to a world free of MS!
