Searching for a new doctor?

WAS_2015_eNews-dec-2015-dr-thumbSearching for a new doctor is never easy, but for people with MS finding the right doctor is even more critical. There are a variety of tools available to help with this process, but the Society also provides support through MS Navigators—highly skilled professionals available to help navigate changes in insurance, a new diagnosis, or finding a new provider to replace one who has moved or retired. View the resources below or give us a call at 1-800-344-4867 for more information.

The Alvord Family: Philanthropic Family of the Year

WAS_2015_eNews-dec-2015-Alvord-thumbEach year, the Society recognizes one family that has made significant financial contributions to our mission. This year the Greater Northwest Chapter’s very own Alvord Family was recognized with this extraordinary distinction. To date, three generations of the family have contributed more than $3 million to support the work of the National MS Society!

$250 million for MS research

WAS_2015_eNews-dec-2015-research-thumbResearch is at the core of finding solutions for people with MS and ending the disease forever. That’s why, five years ago, the Society created the No Opportunity Wasted (NOW) Campaign which aimed to raise $250 million for MS research—the largest MS research campaign in history. Since the start of the campaign, the Society has launched 818 new research projects including:
  • 28 commercial research partnerships aimed at overcoming barriers to commercial development to propel promising new therapies
  • 71 clinical trials
  • 141 projects testing rehabilitation and wellness approaches
  • 137 grants to train promising MS researchers

But we aren’t done yet. We still need your help to reach the $250 million goal and this is your last chance to be a part of MS research history—the NOW campaign ends at the end of December. Still not convinced? Learn more about MS research milestones in this video.

Register today for Washington State Action Day

WAS_2015_eNews-dec-2015-petty-thumbJoin MS activists across Washington state to tell the story of people living with MS at State Action Day in Olympia on Feb. 2. Register now to receive important event details and pre-event teleconference information.

Talking to your legislators may sound intimidating, but your story is powerful and your elected officials want to hear from you. Scott Petty, MS volunteer extraordinaire, “got up the courage” to attend State Action Day a few years ago and reports, “It wasn't as scary as I expected … In the end, I survived and left feeling like I had really accomplished something powerful.” Read more about Scott’s journey as an MS activist and his advice to future activists (including you) in our exclusive interview.

Three cheers for Team Captains!

WAS_2015_eNews-dec-2015-walk-thumbLast month we celebrated our Walk MS and Bike MS Team Captains. We rely on these leaders to build strong teams and energize their friends, family and communities as they raise funds that change the world for people affected by MS. We just can’t thank them enough. Hip, hip, hooray!
Did you know? Walk MS individual and team competitions begin in January! Register today and get ready to compete for awesome prizes as you register, recruit others and fundraise!

Last chance for 2015 charitable tax deductions

WAS_2016_GivingTuesday_150x150Choose the National MS Society as your charity of choice today, #GivingTuesday, participate in your workplace giving campaign, or designate the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as your preferred charity at (use this year-round!). We appreciate your support and look forward to a wildly successful 2016—together we are stronger!
