Terry Wahls, a practicing physician and professor of medicine, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2000. She very rapidly began to lose mobility and was soon using a tilt/recline wheelchair. Dr. Wahls began studying the latest research on autoimmune disease and brain biology, and decided to adopt the nutrient-rich paleo diet, gradually refining and integrating it into a regimen of neuromuscular stimulation. She experienced significant improvement of her MS symptoms. In November 2011, Dr. Wahls shared her remarkable experience in a TEDx talk that immediately went viral. In The Wahls Protocol, she shares the details of the protocol. Note that her personal results cannot be generalized to all people with MS. Dr. Wahls is currently undertaking research to better document the effect of the diet on MS. As with all complementary and alternative treatments, discuss with your physician before starting.
