“Brain Chat With the Nerdy Neurologist” is a podcast that explores all matters of the brain as it relates to life, health, wellness, relationships and science. In each episode, Dr. Williams invites special guests from across the MS and neurology community to share experiences, information and resources so people can get what they need.
About Dr. Mitzi Joi Williams
Mitzi Joi Williams is a Board-certified neurologist and fellowship-trained MS specialist who founded and serves as the CEO of the Joi Life Wellness Group MS Neurology Center in Smyrna, Georgia. With more than 15 years’ experience in the field of MS, she is considered an expert in neurology, MS and health disparities. She received an undergraduate degree in neuroscience and behavioral biology from Emory University and a doctorate in medicine from Morehouse School of Medicine.
She completed her internal medicine internship, neurology residency and MS fellowship at Georgia Health Sciences University, where she served as chief resident of the Neurology Residency Program. Dr. Williams has spearheaded and participated in multiple steering committees and work groups to further research in underserved populations with MS, with a focus on the African American population.
In 2021, she started the Joi Life Foundation, a nonprofit that supports neurologic disease through educational initiatives for patients and healthcare professionals and scholarship and mentorship opportunities. Dr. Williams is the author of “MS Made Simple: The Essential Guide to Understanding Your Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis” and “You Can Live Well with Multiple Sclerosis: A Guidebook for Navigating Life After MS Diagnosis.” She continues to provide personalized MS care with expertise, compassion and joy.
