Betaseron® and Extavia® are taken by injection
Betaseron® and Extavia® are brand names for interferon beta 1b, a medication manufactured by a biotechnological process from one of the naturally occurring interferons (a type of protein).
Betaseron and Extavia are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis to reduce the frequency of clinical exacerbations. Patients with multiple sclerosis in whom efficacy has been demonstrated include patients who have experienced a first clinical episode and have MRI features consistent with multiple sclerosis.
